Ricoh GR iii Portra 400 Profile

I like the look of the Kodak Portra 400. I like the creamy colors. Somehow it reminds me of the typical American landscapes. A gas station on a deserted highway. Unfortunately it is a bit difficult to find the right motives here in Tyrol. I tried to recreate the look of Kodak Portra with the Ricoh GR III. Here are some samples. All images unprocessed out from the camera. Only add some grain in Lightroom.

Shooting Analog in 2020

I was simply curious why I should still take analog pictures today. What exactly is the attraction, and are the image quality is really so different from digital? All these questions have been on my mind for a long time. So I bought the Nikon F100 and now I got the scans of my first 35mm film (Ilford FP4+) role back. I was very sceptical about the correct exposure. I expected at least 30% over or underexposed pictures. I was totally surprised when I saw the results. Only one picture was underexposed. All other pictures were exactly as I would …

Project against my perfectionism #6 – „The Forrest“

As a photographic object the forest is actually the last thing I like to photograph. But today I tried. A little walk through the forest. The silence there is good for me. And somehow my setup fits to it. My Lumix GX80 with the Voigtländer Nokton 25mm/0.95. Wide open the Nokton has its own dreamy look. It has a very own look I would say. For me it is the first time that I use a lens with manual focus. I didn’t think I’d get used to it so quickly. Yeah, I guess so. Sure, it’s not suitable as a …

iPhone 5 & VSCO A6 are great

Yes, shooting with the iPhone 5 in 2020. Yes, the iPhone5 pictures are grainy. It has only 8MB and by far not the dynamic range like current cameras, but i still like the look. iOS 10 has a way much better JPG processing. With iOS 11 Apple changed the JPG processing. Up from this version the noise reduction is much too aggressive. You can see it in the hairs and skins when you shooting people. Looks like watercolour paintings. I don’t know why no one’s ever talked about this before. Here some images of the last days. Processed with VSCO …

Project against my perfectionism #5 – „My Street“

It is very difficult for me to stay on this project at the moment. I notice how my perfectionism looks for all possible ways not to continue. It’s hard for me to just do a little photo walk and post these. But I overcame myself and walked out our street and took some snapshots. My curiosity is now so great when it comes to analogue photography. I have now ordered the Nikon F100, a cheap Point & Shot film camera and a few rolls of Kodak Porta 400. But I have the feeling that it is nothing for me. I …

Project against my perfectionism #1

A small project against my perfectionism, which often prevents me from doing projects or finishing things. The first small micro-project are pictures on the topic „what it really looks like with children at home“. A day to take pictures. Well, mostly it’s a few minutes you have next to the children. The next day to select, edit and upload the pictures. Shot with my lovely iPhone 5 and the Blackie App.
